US Senator Tammy Baldwin’s office contacted Extension to ensure that the participants in Latinos Unidos en Fond du Lac knew about COVID relief resources. Vanessa Llanas, Regional Representative, also agreed to meet the leaders to talk more about their concerns. Five leaders joined the Zoom meeting, introduced themselves, and stated their concerns about immigration laws and drivers licenses. This was an achievement and the first time most had communicated with a US Senator’s office. Ms. Llanas taught the group about the federal government, Senator Baldwin’s role, and ways that she can assist state residents. She also clarified that drivers licenses is a state issue which state legislators will need to determine. Ms. Llanas motivated the group to be actively involved in the democratic process. “If you live in Wisconsin, your voice counts.”
