The Stephenson Scholarship Fund was established nearly 50 years ago in 1974 by the will of the late Hazel L. Stephenson of Fond du Lac. The purpose of the fund is to assist students of Fond du Lac County in attaining or completing an education at any one of the University of Wisconsin campuses. All residents of Fond du Lac County, whether new or returning students, are encouraged to apply. Eligibility for scholarship consideration is limited to students pursuing their full-time undergraduate college degree. (i.e. applications accepted from high school seniors through college juniors).

Each year the Stephenson Scholarship Committee receives up to 60 applications for financial help from college students. Last year, a total of nearly $15,000 was distributed among 11 Fond du Lac County students. Each of the five committee members reads and evaluates each of the applications.  This involves considerable time and effort, which the committee is happy to invest, since the scholarships will assist deserving students in their efforts to further their education. The scholarship fund was created with the requirement to have select organizations involved in the committee work, including the University of Wisconsin Madison-Division of Extension Fond du Lac County.
Applications for the 2023-2024 scholarships will be available on February 1st at the following link: https://fonddulac.extension.wisc.edu/ss/. The application deadline is March 20th.
