Feed costs account for roughly half of the dairy farm’s total expenses. Extreme weather events and excessive moisture have created forage challenges to varying degrees across Eastern Wisconsin. It will be important to make decisions that are agronomically and economically sound, as markets and prices remain volatile due to the pandemic.

This year’s meeting will take place virtually with a forage-focused webinar offered on Thursday, September 24, 2020 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. We will discuss forage supply, demand, quality, and pricing with an emphasis on financial aspects of the following topics:

  • Making last alfalfa decisions
Presented by: Scott Reuss, Extension Marinette County
  • Feed inventory/quality after corn silage harvest overview
Presented by: Kevin Jarek, Extension Outagamie County
  • Making decisions for 2021: planting after corn silage harvest
Presented by: Dr. Matt Akins, Animal & Dairy Science Department, UW-Madison Division of Extension

There is no registration fee, but you must pre-register by 5:00 pm on September 23. Registration can be made online at https://go.wisc.edu/62av56. After submitting the online form, you will receive further details on how to connect to the webinar.
