Gardeners have been diligently planting 127 plots at the Community Garden, as best they can, in between all the showers, but they don’t need to water! Some of the gardens are unusable, as the rain has not let up much in the month of June.
The county airport staff cut down the tall weeds and grass growing in the east and south plots of the garden. Now we will be able to plant the cover crop as soon as the soil dries. This year we have chosen a mix of oats, annual rye, and crimson clover. The cover crop is planted to manage soil erosion, soil fertility, soil quality, water, weeds, pests and diseases.
