On Saturday, February 19 Fond du Lac County 4-H held its annual Family Learning Day event. Fifty-two youth from Fond du Lac County were able to choose from 22 different educational sessions. The event welcomes parents to help their children participate in the sessions. These educational sessions were led by 21 different community members and 4-H volunteers. Youth and adults learning new skills such as sewing DIY T-Shirt printing, decorating with Fondant, chocolate dipping, woodworking, Making Turkey Calls, how to identify different animal tracks, painting, and so much more.
Many of the youth co-led sessions as well as attending. Here is what the youth and adults had to say about their experiences throughout the day:
- “Loved the visual journals. It really helps people express themselves in a different way.”- a youth participant from Mindfulness session

- “It was tricky, but the instructor was helpful, and it was fun.”- a youth participant from 3-D Snowflake session
- “The gumball machine was really cool. I think there should be more like that one.”- a youth participant from Card making session
Youth completed a survey at the end of their sessions. Of the surveys completed 98% of youth learned something during their sessions and 93% of youth tried something they had not done before. 100% of the youth said they had fun in their sessions.
