4-H Fashion Revue Builds Life Skills for Youth

4-H members from Fond du Lac, Dodge, and Winnebago Counties participated in the Tri-County Fashion Revue on June 10 in Oshkosh. This event provides a place where youth can showcase their clothing, knitting and crocheting projects.  Youth gain some many life skills from this event.  Participants were graded on their garment, creativity and overall appearance of the garment on the model.  Youth build self-esteem and social skills as they model their projects. The sewing project also gives the youth an opportunity to plan, goal set, problem solve and learning to learn skills as well throughout the course of starting a sewing project start to finish.  Many of the youth mentioned difficulties they had when working on their projects and how they solved any problems they had.  Youth received advice from Judges Heidi Hensel-Buntrock and Sue Putra to improve their next year’s projects and gain confidence as they described and modeled their creations. There were 19 entries in the show amongst the three counties.  The Best in Show delegates were Judah K (Winnebago County), Vivian L (Dodge County) and Kendra W (Fond du Lac County).
