The Dodge County Farmers for Healthy Soil-Healthy Water (HSHW), in collaboration with UW-Extension and the Dodge County Alliance, held a cover crop showcase demonstrating 13 different cover crop mixtures growing in a harvested wheat field adjacent to Lake Sinissippi. All totaled, approximately 62 people attended the morning and evening programs on September 19th, 2018. A soil pit, used by Dr. Jamie Patton, University of Wisconsin-Madison & Extension Nutrient and Pest Management (NPM) Northeast Regional Outreach Specialist, and others, dramatically illustrated the story of soil health via the soil beneath our feet. In addition, Dr. Loretta Ortiz-Ribbing released 3 Tip Sheets with methods for establishing cover crops that were written with the help of 3 local farmers. Look for future posts as these Cover Crop Establishment Tip Sheets will soon be available on Dodge and Fond du Lac County UW-Extension and Dodge County Farmers for HSHW websites.
