On Saturday, February 24, Fond du Lac County 4-H held its annual Family Learning Day event. Over 70 youth from around the area were able to choose from 50 different educational sessions. Parents were encouraged to attend sessions along with their children. These educational sessions were led by 40 different community members and 4-H volunteers. Youth and adults learning new skills such as sewing small pillows, decorating with Fondant, learning about chickens and rabbits, how to identify different animal tracks, painting, needle felting, bike maintenance and safety, and so much more.
4-H Adult volunteers or parents could also learn about how to become a 4-H project leader, learn about resources available, or learn how to improve their leadership skills during sessions just for adults. New this year the participants also did a community service project as part of their day. Participants brought in needed supplies to help support the Fond du Lac warming shelter.
Youth not only could participate in sessions, but could also lead them. A few youth took on this leadership opportunity to lead other youth in something that brings them joy such as LEGO brick building or needle felting.
