SUMMARY OF POSTION:
This position is designed to a program of the UW Colleges/UW-Extension Summer Affirmative Action Internship Program. This internship provides a unique opportunity to be on the forefront of assessing the changing needs of a growing Latino population in Fond du Lac County. You will provide critical leadership to increase UW-Extension and other community stakeholder’s capacity to partner with Latino audiences.
This internship experience will contribute to your career through social and community development, and serve as a hands-on introduction to University Wisconsin-Extension.
This summer position provides valuable pre-professional experience for educational and community based careers. The Summer Intern is supervised by the Fond du Lac County 4-H Youth Development Educator.
ADMINISTRATION RELATIONSHIPS:
This position is accountable to Fond du Lac County 4-H Youth Development Educator on all matters related to program performance and job responsibilities; developing effective external working relationships with clientele groups, other agencies, and organizations; and reporting and evaluating programs as appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The 4-H Summer Intern work involves, but is not limited to
- Collaborating with bilingual 4-H youth development assistant to expand and enrich the Latino youth programs established in the community (“Green Meadows” and “Young Dreamers”) through promotion, planning and program implementation
- Initiate the planning of a Latino Community “Hub” which may include:
- Creating a database of local organizations providing programs and services
- Developing a database of local businesses willing to partner to provide training services to Latinos
- Creating a social media space for Latinos in Fond du Lac County
- Initiating a Latino Advisory Council
- Researching Latino non-profits across WI with the intent to create connections to share experiences.
- Developing strategies to expend capacity to support Latinos economic and professional progress based upon Latino community needs assessment.
This is an entry level position requiring significant contact with the public. This summer position provides flexibility in scheduling; however some night and weekend work may be required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Make individual arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position duties and essential job functions
- Hold valid driver’s license and proof of insurability
- Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The individual must be enrolled for academic credit at an educational institution. An educational institution is defined as:
– an accredited institution of higher learning granting associate degrees or higher;
– a technical college; or
– a vocational or trade school.
The employing unit is responsible for verifying an individual’s eligibility and maintaining documentation of verification. Suitable method of verification is UW-Extension Student Verification Form.
- The individual must be at least 18 years of age
- Bilingual (English – Spanish)
- Evidence of successful leadership experience in school and/or community organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to value and embrace individual and cultural differences.
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Enthusiasm and flexibility
- Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft programs
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of two years of college preferred
- Previous work or volunteer experience with diverse populations
SALARY:
$10 /hour, not to exceed 384 hours total. Reimbursement for official job travel, meals, etc. will be provided according to county policy.
