Cloverbud Camp: Superheroes in the Community

The Cloverbuds had several guest speakers throughout the day at Cloverbud Day Camp. The first guest of the day was Jerry with the Appleton and Eldorado fire departments. The youth learned about fire safety and the fire fighter’s gear and equipment. The K9 unit stopped in and visited the Cloverbuds, and they learned about what Sergeant Andrew and K9 Ace do. The youth had other superhero activities sprinkled in between guest speakers such as decorating capes, mask making, creating shields, and superhero training (obstacle course). During lunch, the 2023 Fairest of the Fair, Kaitlyn stopped in for a visit. Kicking off the afternoon was guest speaker Brianna, a vet tech, who taught the Cloverbuds about taking their pet to the vet. She walked through what an exam looks like and had all sorts of cool things for the youth to look at. They saw cat and dog teeth models, an eyeball, tapeworms, some x-rays to name a few. They even got to practice using a stethoscope to listen to their heartbeats! The last guest speaker of the day was Cindy, a Navy Veteran. She shared about her service in the Navy. The youth learned about what it was like to live on a ship. Be sure to check out the Facebook page for more pictures of the camp day!

The camp’s goals were that youth would learn something new, be engaging, and increase their interest in the topics. Evaluations were completed by participants.  According to the completed surveys, 100 % of the youth Strongly Agreed with the statements “The activities were fun and engaging. 75% of the youth strongly agreed with the statements “The activities taught us something new,” and  “The activities increased our interest and curiosity about different careers in the community.” Campers were asked what they learned during camp.  Here is what was shared: “Stop drop and roll. We talked about a meeting place if there is a fire at our house”, “She is thinking about being a vet when she gets older!”, “You have to wash your hands when you’re done playing with cats because worms can get into your body.”, and “About how to be a helper.”  Youth have learned about various jobs in their community and may have aspirations of becoming one of the chosen careers highlighted.
