Tracy Keifenheim, 4-H Educator, partnered with the Fond du Lac Boys and Girls Club Roberts location to start a 4-H club within the Boys and Girls Club. Keifenheim worked with Anna Koepsell, Roberts Extension Director, to build out the 6-week LEGO Club. The club had 16 youth members averaging about 10 participants each week. Over 6 weeks, members of Roberts Boys and Girls Club 4-H LEGO Club learned different building techniques, practiced techniques, and participated in LEGO challenges each week. Skills progressed each week the club met. At the last club meeting the youth participated in a LEGO challenge where the youth determined a theme and had 40 minutes to build a creation based on that theme. Local celebrity judges then evaluated each of the builds and youth were awarded certificates for the best of four categories. Club members filled out evaluations after the club concluded and shared the following results. Of the youth who completed the evaluation 91% strongly agreed with the following statements: “This club was fun and engaging.”, “This club increased my interest in LEGO building.”, “I learned something new from LEGO Club.”, and “The instructor was helpful.” When asked if there was anything the youth would like to share three youth stated “Best club ever” and one youth stated “More days of LEGO Club.” Youth at the Roberts Boys and Girls Club will be determining the next 4-H club that will be offered during the spring after school at the club.
