Fond du Lac County 4-H recently hosted its Cloverbud Day Camp, Superheroes in the Community, providing young members with a fun and engaging opportunity to learn about the people who help make our communities safe, healthy, and successful.
Throughout the day, youth explored what it means to be a real-life superhero through hands-on activities, games, creative projects, and interactions with community professionals. Campers designed their own superhero capes, masks, and shields while learning about community helpers such as firefighters, EMTs, veterinarians, farmers, bus drivers, and park rangers.
A highlight of the day was hearing directly from community heroes. A local firefighter, Fire Chief Jerry for the town of Eldorado, shared insights into fire safety and public service, while Officer Burr and K-9 Gambo gave campers an up-close look at the important work law enforcement K-9 teams perform in our communities. These experiences helped youth connect classroom concepts to real-world careers and service opportunities.
Campers also participated in superhero training activities that emphasized teamwork, problem-solving, communication, perseverance, and physical activity. Through obstacle courses, rescue missions, and cooperative games, youth practiced skills that support positive youth development and leadership.
The day concluded with campers creating their own superhero profiles and reflecting on the qualities that make someone a hero. The overarching message was clear: superheroes aren’t just found in comic books. They are the everyday people who serve, protect, care for, and support others, and each young person has the ability to make a positive difference in their community.
