National Volunteer Week Salutes 4‑H Volunteers and Invites New Involvement in Fond du Lac County

UW–Madison Division of Extension — Fond du Lac County is proud to celebrate National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 19–25, 2026, by recognizing the dedicated volunteers who make Fond du Lac County 4‑H possible and encouraging others to get involved. Fond du Lac County 4‑H relies on community volunteers who generously share their time, skills, and experiences with youth. This year, 132 volunteers have served as club leaders, project leaders, activity leaders, and in many other roles that ensure quality learning opportunities for youth throughout the county.

According to the 2024 North Central Region Volunteer Impact Study, Wisconsin 4‑H volunteers spend an average of nine hours per month supporting local 4‑H experiences. Their efforts include leading club meetings and project activities, organizing community service projects, preparing youth for judging contests, and mentoring young people as they develop valuable life skills. The impact of 4‑H volunteers is felt year‑round. By building positive relationships with caring adults, youth gain confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging—strengthening both individuals and communities.

As Fond du Lac County 4‑H celebrates current volunteers, it also welcomes new individuals interested in sharing a hobby, skill, or expertise with youth. Several project areas have strong youth participation but are in need of additional project leaders or helpers. To support new volunteers, Fond du Lac County 4‑H offers comprehensive project leader training to provide guidance, resources, and hands‑on learning experiences.
