The use of sexed semen in nonlactating dairy heifers and lactating dairy cows has dramatically increased over the past 5 years. One issue with sexed semen is a reduction in pregnancies per AI compared with conventional semen. Dr. Fricke Professor and Extension Specialist will share new research on how to optimize fertility to sexed semen based on recent field trials in lactating dairy cows and nonlactating heifers. Dr. Victor Cabrera, Professor and Extension Specialist will follow up with an economic analysis of strategies for using sexed semen in dairy herds.
